It is effective against bacteria that do not need oxygen.
Metronidazole 400mg (14 tablets) is an antibiotic used to treat women who have bacterial vaginosis. Using these tablets as prescribed is an effective way of treating the infection.
FLAGYL 400MG TAB 14'S
Metronidazole 400mg (14 tablets) is used for the effective treatment of bacterial vaginosis. Like most medications, Metronidazole 400mg is not suitable for everyone. You should speak to your GP before using this treatment if you: • Are allergic to any of the ingredients • Have a history of liver disease • Have a history of kidney disease • Have a blood disorder that gives you a low blood cell count • If you have the rare genetic condition Cockayne syndrome • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Do not take alcohol during therapy and for at least 48 hours after stopping treatment, due to severe side effects which can potentially require hospital admission
Metronidazole 400mg (14 tablets) should be swallowed whole (without chewing) with water during or after meals. Most courses of metronidazole for bacterial vaginosis will last about 7 days, but it depends on the severity of the infection.

Metronidazole 400mg tablets is not the only way to treat bacterial vaginosis. Please speak to your doctor in regard to other treatment options available.
While they are unlikely, there are some side effects associated with using metronidazole 400mg. These include: Rare (fewer than 1 in 1,000 but more than 1 in 10,000): Anaphylaxis Very rare (fewer than 1 in 10,000): Agranulocytosis, neutropenia, pancytopenia, psychotic disorders including confusion and hallucinations, encephalopathy, subacute cerebellar syndrome, dipoplia and myopia (which are usually only temporary), increase in liver enzymes, jaundice, pancreatitis, liver failure (in patients simultaneously using metronidazole and other antibiotic drugs), skin rashes, pustular eruptions, pruritus, flushing, myalgia, arthralgia, darkened urine
